What is Semax?
A synthetic seven-amino-acid peptide derived from a fragment of the hormone ACTH but lacking its hormonal effects, Semax is studied for its protective effects on nerve tissue. Research focuses on how it raises levels of neurotrophic factors such as BDNF and NGF and how it influences signalling during reduced blood flow to the brain.
- In rat basal forebrain preparations, Semax administration increased brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) protein levels.
- In rodent models of cerebral ischaemia, the peptide was associated with reduced infarct-related damage and modulation of nitric oxide generation.
- Studies report inhibition of enkephalin-degrading enzymes, extending the activity of endogenous regulatory peptides.
- In vitro work describes activation of trophic and anti-apoptotic signalling pathways in cultured neuronal cells.
For research use only. Not intended for human use.
Derived from the 4-10 fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro extension, Semax occupies a distinctive position among synthetic neuropeptide analogues. Also designated ACTH(4-10)-Pro-Gly-Pro (CAS 80714-61-0), this heptapeptide carries the molecular formula C37H51N9O10S and a molecular weight of 813.94 g/mol. Produced via solid-phase peptide synthesis.
In vitro studies using primary cortical neuron cultures have investigated whether Semax modulates BDNF and NGF expression through transcription factor pathways independent of canonical melanocortin receptor activation. In vivo rodent models have explored the pharmacokinetic profile of ACTH(4-10)-Pro-Gly-Pro, examining how the Pro-Gly-Pro extension influences peptide stability in cerebrospinal fluid.
Manufactured in a quality-controlled laboratory to a guaranteed purity of 98% or above. Every batch undergoes independent third-party testing using HPLC and MS-UPLC analysis before dispatch. Vials are vacuum sealed and stored in a temperature-controlled, monitored cold storage system. A batch-specific Certificate of Analysis is available on request.
Sold strictly for in vitro research purposes only. Not for human consumption. Intended for use by qualified researchers in laboratory settings only.
