What is DNSP-11?

A synthetic 11-amino-acid peptide derived from the precursor of the nerve-growth factor GDNF, DNSP-11 is studied for dopaminergic neuron survival in research models. Identification of a biologically active fragment within the prosequence of glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor — a region normally cleaved and discarded during propeptide processing — introduced DNSP-11 as a structurally novel research tool in neurotrophic signalling. Also known as GDNF prosequence peptide, this 11-amino acid C-terminally amidated compound has an approximate molecular weight of 1300 g/mol. Produced via solid-phase peptide synthesis.

In vitro studies using dopaminergic MN9D cell lines have investigated whether GDNF prosequence peptide activates PI3K/Akt and MAPK/ERK cascades through GFRa1/RET-dependent or RET-independent mechanisms. In vivo rodent models have explored the biodistribution and CNS penetration of GDNF prosequence peptide, examining whether the 11-amino acid fragment achieves sufficient nigral tissue concentrations to engage local neurotrophic signalling pathways.
