What is GDF-8 (Myostatin)?
A recombinant protein also known as myostatin, GDF-8 is studied as the body's natural brake on muscle growth. Research focuses on its signalling through activin type II receptors and a SMAD cascade that limits muscle-cell development.
- Studied for its signalling through activin type II receptors and the SMAD cascade.
- Investigated as the principal negative regulator of muscle-cell development.
- Examined in research models for the control of muscle mass.
- Used as a research tool to study myostatin biology.
For research use only. Not intended for human use.
Within the TGF-beta superfamily, few ligands have attracted as much preclinical attention for their role in negative regulatory signalling as Growth Differentiation Factor 8. GDF-8, more widely known as Myostatin, is a recombinant homodimeric protein with an approximate molecular weight of 25,000 g/mol. Myostatin signals through the activin type IIB receptor (ActRIIB) and downstream SMAD2/3 transcription factors. Produced as a recombinant protein.
In vitro reporter gene assays using SMAD-responsive luciferase constructs have been employed to characterise dose-dependent transcriptional activation initiated by recombinant GDF-8. In vivo rodent models carrying targeted Myostatin gene disruptions have provided comparative data for studies administering exogenous GDF-8.
Manufactured in a quality-controlled laboratory to a guaranteed purity of 98% or above. Every batch undergoes independent third-party testing using HPLC and MS-UPLC analysis before dispatch. Vials are vacuum sealed and stored in a temperature-controlled, monitored cold storage system. A batch-specific Certificate of Analysis is available on request.
Sold strictly for in vitro research purposes only. Not for human consumption. Intended for use by qualified researchers in laboratory settings only.
