What is PEG-MGF?
A version of Mechano Growth Factor attached to a polyethylene glycol chain to slow its breakdown, PEG-MGF is studied as a longer-lasting muscle-repair peptide. Research focuses on how the modification extends circulating stability while the E-domain retains its signalling activity.

Covalent attachment of a polyethylene glycol chain to the C-terminal fragment of mechano growth factor created a structurally modified analogue designed to resist rapid proteolytic degradation. PEG-MGF, also known as PEGylated Mechano Growth Factor, has an approximate molecular weight of 4500 g/mol. The PEGylation shields the native peptide sequence from enzymatic cleavage. Produced via solid-phase peptide synthesis followed by site-specific PEGylation.
In vitro studies using C2C12 myoblast cultures have examined whether PEG-MGF activates IGF-1R and downstream Akt/mTOR cascades with different kinetic profiles compared to its unconjugated counterpart. In vivo rodent models have explored the biodistribution and serum persistence of PEGylated Mechano Growth Factor relative to unmodified MGF.
