What is GHRP-6?
One of the earliest synthetic growth hormone secretagogues to be characterised, GHRP-6 is a six-amino-acid peptide studied as a benchmark for stimulating growth hormone release. Research focuses on its activation of the ghrelin receptor and the downstream signalling that drives secretion from the pituitary.
- In ovine and rat somatotroph cultures, GHRP-6 induced growth hormone release dependent on intracellular cAMP and voltage-gated calcium channels.
- Rodent studies describe synergy with growth hormone-releasing hormone in modulating growth hormone pulse amplitude.
- Investigations report a cytoprotective effect in cardiac tissue independent of growth hormone release.
- Receptor work establishes its role as a foundational comparator for second and third generation secretagogues.
For research use only. Not intended for human use.
Among the earliest synthetic hexapeptides developed for ghrelin receptor research, Growth Hormone-Releasing Peptide-6 has remained a foundational compound in preclinical secretagogue pharmacology. GHRP-6 (CAS 87616-84-0) carries the molecular formula C46H56N12O6 and a molecular weight of 873.01 g/mol. Its sequence His-D-Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH2 features a D-Tryptophan substitution at position 2, central to its recognition at GHS-R1a. Produced via solid-phase peptide synthesis.
In vitro studies using isolated pituitary preparations have examined the capacity to initiate intracellular calcium flux and phosphoinositide turnover upon GHS-R1a engagement. In vivo rodent models have explored the interplay between GHRP-6 administration and hypothalamic neuropeptide circuits, particularly regarding orexigenic signalling pathways.
Manufactured in a quality-controlled laboratory to a guaranteed purity of 98% or above. Every batch undergoes independent third-party testing using HPLC and MS-UPLC analysis before dispatch. Vials are vacuum sealed and stored in a temperature-controlled, monitored cold storage system. A batch-specific Certificate of Analysis is available on request.
Sold strictly for in vitro research purposes only. Not for human consumption. Intended for use by qualified researchers in laboratory settings only.
