LL-37 (CAP-18) is a 37 amino acid cationic antimicrobial peptide and the only human cathelicidin identified to date. Derived from the C-terminal domain of the precursor protein hCAP-18 via proteinase 3-mediated cleavage, LL-37 adopts an amphipathic alpha-helical conformation that underlies its membrane-disrupting activity. As a research compound, LL-37 is used extensively in innate immunity research, antimicrobial peptide pharmacology, wound biology, and immunomodulatory signalling studies in vitro. It is produced via solid-phase peptide synthesis.
