Pharmacokinetics

Tesamorelin is a synthetically constructed analog to the naturally occurring growth hormone-releasing hormone, or GHRH. As a result, its mechanism of function is similar.[1] Within the body, there are processes that regulate the production of growth hormones. The creation of growth hormones is regulated by an abstracted system of GHRH, and its receptor counterpart, growth hormone-releasing hormone receptor (GHRHR). When stimulated by GHRH, GHRHR starts the release of human growth hormone (hGH) and other growth hormones.[2] Tesamorelin acts as GHRH does in this application, artificially prompting the release of consequential hormones.[1]

Scientific Studies

There have been studies on the lipolytic, or fat burning, effects of tesamorelin in HIV positive test subjects.[1][4] A 2011 study on HIV positive individuals displaying lipodystrophy, or excessive belly fat, showed some of the potential effects of tesamorelin.[3] Over 26 weeks, subjects were administered tesamorelin. They indicated trimming of belly fat during this period. Following, they were dispensed placebo. Rapid regain of weight was observed.[3]
