AnaSpec Introduces new Series of PAR Peptides
Date Posted: Tuesday, July 08, 2008
AnaSpec has introduced its latest series of PAR peptides.
Protease or Proteinase-Activated Receptors, PARs, belong to the seven transmembrane G-protein coupled family of receptors. These receptors are activated when the amino terminus of the receptor is cleaved by specific serine proteases - thrombin (PAR-1, 3 and 4) and trypsin (PAR-2). The cleaved amino end can then act as a tethered ligand on the second extracellular loop of the receptor thereby activating the receptor.
Short sequences contained in the amino terminus have been found to activate the receptors on their own, without the need for the protease cleavage.
